Activism School
Support to build an oasis for artists and activists in Kenya.

Boniface Mwangi
My wife and l own some property
in Lukenya, which is situated about 50 kilometres from Kenya’s capital city, Nairobi. The property is fenced, and we are building our family home there. We have put up rudimentary developments, like an ablution block and a small grass-thatched meeting area.
We are planning to build a proper activists camp. We shall open up the space to artists and activists to come camp, train, and create new work. The space will also be able to support me and my family.
I am hopeful that if we’re able to open up this camp, it will help me continue with my mission of passing on the baton to a new generation of activists who can work toward creating a more equitable and just
I’m going to create an oasis for artists and activists - a permanent home that will serve people not only from Kenya but also the region. There is a rapid erosion of democracy in the region - Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Congo, Somalia, South Sudan and the ongoing genocide in Ethiopia’s Tigray region. The camp will serve as a hub for people who want to learn, share and create inside a safe space.
